Staff Sgt. Derek Johnson, 15th Operations Group knowledge operations technician, is this week's Hickam Warrior.

Sergeant Johnson's job requires him to support over 350 members throughout four squadrons installing and configuring computer hardware and software. He troubleshoots over 100 computer issues monthly.

"What I enjoy most about my job is the opportunity to work in almost any part of the world," he said. "Knowledge Operations Managers are one of the very few jobs that can be attached to nearly any unit. Every assignment is completely unique and different from the last. It's an exciting adventure."

Sergeant Johnson is also his unit's deployment manager and Air Expeditionary Force reporting tool monitor preparing Airmen to deploy to various locations all over the world. Additionally, Sergeant Johnson is a Vehicle Control Officer and is responsible for the Commander's vehicle and serves as a focal point for all vehicles within the 15th Operations Group. Sergeant Johnson also maintains approximately $78,000 in Automated Date Processing Equipment Resources.

Tech. Sgt. Nancy Barron-Palumbo, 15th OG Knowledge Operations Management Flight superintendent, praised Sergeant Johnson for his dedication and enthusiasm.

"Derek is a work horse. He tackles every job with vigor and enthusiasm, without his unyielding support and dedication we would not be as effective as we are," she said. "He is the backbone of the executive staff support. I truly appreciate his hard work."

Sergeant Johnson stated that his favorite thing about Hawai'i is its diverse landscape.

"My favorite thing about being stationed in Hawai'i is being able to go see the mountains and the beach on the same day."
