December 7th Remembrance Ceremony

The Honor Guard practices performing a three-volley salute before the December 7th Remembrance Ceremony at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii, Dec. 7, 2021. Historically, three volleys of rifle fire were fired to indicate that the casualties had been cared for in a combat environment, and that the fighting could resume. As time passed, these volleys became an official military custom that survives to this day. (U.S. Air Force photo by 1st Lt. Benjamin Aronson)
