80th anniversary of Hickam Field’s dedication

Horace Hickam survived a mid-air collision with a student pilot by parachuting out of his aircraft in 1926. Hickam, a pioneer military aviator, died after crashing his Curtiss A-12 Shrike on November 5, 1934 while conducting a night landing on an unlighted runway at Fort Crockett, Texas.
