Hickam Field Attack Remembrance
Marion Shepherd, the grandfather of Tech. Sgt. Andrew Shepherd, who’s assigned to the 15th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron here, was enlisted in the Army Air Corps at Hickam Field at the time of the Dec. 7, 1941, attack on the base that killed 190 Airmen and civilians. Shepherd survived the attack and went onto to survive a subsequent attack on the B-17 he was flying on during the Battle of Midway in 1942. Shepherd was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Purple Heart and Air Medal for his actions. (Photo provided by Air Force Tech. Sgt. Andrew Shepherd)
