bone marrow registration drive
HICKAM AIR FORCE BASE, Hawaii -- 2nd Lt. Jimmy Thompson III and Tech. Sgt. Donald Shevlin,15th Contracting Squadron, tally up bone marrow registration kits in the office June 9. This year's bone marrow registration drive lasted through June 5, and more than 300 people from Hickam AFB were added to the National Bone Marrow Donor Registry . In 2008 and 2009 drives, Hickam AFB has now added more 2,200 names to the national registry. "In the future, we aim to educate the base populous on how easy donating bone marrow is should a member be matched to someone in need, working to squash the perception that donating marrow is extremely painful or hard to recover from," Lieutenant Thompson said.
