Tower twinkles in the Hawaii sky
HICKAM AIR FORCE BASE, Hawaii -- Hana Hou, Pacific Air Forces Band - Hawaii, performs holiday music during the Freedom Tower Lighting celebration Dec. 4. More than 5,000 multi-colored twinkle lights make the tower Oahu's largest Christmas tree at 171 feet tall. This year marked the 40th anniversary of the freedom tower lighting. Hickam's history reports that it was spared from the Japanese attack on Dec. 7, 1941 because they believed the majestic tower was our place of worship. The tower stored 500,000 gallons of emergency water for the base. (U.S. Air Force photo/Staff Sgt. Mike Meares)
