COMPACAF presents Medallion for Heroism
Col. (Ret.) Alden Avery presents Mrs. Doris Avery (Dee) a member of the "Greatest Generation," with a bouquet of flowers at a medallion ceremony to honor her efforts in World War II, as Gen. Gary North, Pacific Air Forces commander, looks on. She received an Air Medal for her actions. In a ceremony to honor her, General North presented the Noncommissioned Officers' Association World War II Veterans Medallion to Mrs. Avery at the Courtyard of Heroes, Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickam, Hawaii, Feb. 5, 2010, for her heroic efforts. Mrs. Avery served as a lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps during World War II. As a flight nurse on medical air evacuation flights, Lieutenant Avery amassed more than 800 flight hours.
