Hawaiian Monk Seal

WHITE PLAINS BEACH, Hawaii -- The Hawaiian monk seal is an endangered earless seal that is native to the Hawaiian Islands. The Haswaiian word is "Ilio-holo-i-ka-uaua," or dog that runs in rough water." The seal was designated as an endangered species in November 1976, and a recent estimate states only 1,100 remain.
