Hickam honors Heroes on 70th Anniversary of the attacks
Gen. Gary North, Pacific Air Forces commander, speaks during a Dec. 7, 2011,70th Anniversary Remembrance Ceremony commemorating the 1941 attacks on Hickam Field, now Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii. North spoke of the American resolve and how the Japanese unsuccessfully sought to destroy the American spirit. “While you may have had limited means with which to fight back, they could never destroy your will,” he said. “You leapt from your beds, you manned machine guns on this very field, you struggled to save your aircraft, you grabbed your .45 caliber pistols from your hip and you shot back!” (U.S. Air Force photo/Senior Airman Lauren Main/Released)
