Honoring Heroes
One of 92 flags and leis adorn gravesite of Army Air Forces Pfc. Richard E. Livingston, 5th Bomb Group, Hickam Field, at the National Cemetery of the Pacific, at Punchbowl in Honolulu, to honor of his sacrifice as he was killed during the Dec. 7, 1941, attacks on Oahu. Jessie Higa, volunteer historian and president of the Hickam History Club, directed a team of volunteers Dec. 2, 2012, to honor the men who were killed on that infamous day. Higa and a team of teenagers from a local school started placing flags last year as a community service project. (U.S. Air Force photo/Staff Sgt. Mike Meares)
