A wish come true: Washington native becomes World War II downed pilot

Ford Ebesugawa, tour guide (right), explains a Japanese Zero crash incident that occurred during the Dec. 7, 1941 Pearl Harbor attacks to Carl Hess, Make-A-Wish recipient (left), and his sister Kayelynn Hess (center) at the Pacific Aviation Museum, Ford Island, Hawaii, Feb. 19, 2013. Carl is fighting acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), a fast-growing cancer of the white blood cells, and wished to be a downed World War II pilot. Since 1980, the MAW Foundation has changed the lives of children with life-threatening medical conditions through its wish-granting work. (U.S. Air Force photo/Tech. Sgt. Jerome S. Tayborn)
