A wish come true: Washington native becomes World War II downed pilot
Carl Hess, Make-A-Wish recipient, sits inside an F-15 Fighting Eagle cockpit at the Pacific Aviation Museum, Ford Island, Hawaii, Feb. 19, 2013. Carl is fighting acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), a fast-growing cancer of the white blood cells, and his wish was to be a downed World War II pilot. The MAW Foundation worked in partnership with various Hawaiian military agencies to fulfill Carl's wish and tour historical sites around Oahu. (U.S. Air Force photo/Tech. Sgt Jerome S. Tayborn)
