In memoriam

A memorial of surf board was erected on the North Shore to Andy Irons, a Hawaii born professional surfer who died Nov. 2, 2010, of a reported viral disease. Irons, over the course of his professional career, won three world titles (2002, 2003, 2004), three Quiksilver Pro France titles (2003, 2004, 2005), two Rip Curl Pro Search titles (2006 and 2007) and 20 elite tour victories, including the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing four times from 2002-2006. School of luck

Koi gather on the edge of a pond at the Dole Plantation in Wahiawa, Hawaii, waiting for visitors to toss food in the water. The pineapple plantation started as a fruit stand in 1950 on the way to the North Shore, growing to become one of the most population attarctions in Hawaii. The plantation also boasts the 2008 Guiness Book of World Records largest maze in the world at 138,000 square feet, designed in the shape of a pineapple. Koi is a symbol of luck in Asian culture.
