The Pacific Air Forces C-17 Demonstration Team departed for Singapore Feb. 6 to take part in Singapore International Airshow 2014, the country's bi-annual air show being held this year at Changi East International Airport.

During the show, the C-17 demo team will demonstrate the flexible combat capabilities of the Globemaster III including highlighting its maximum takeoff power, maneuverability and range of speeds.

The team will also display the aircraft's ability to make assault landings, a feat Maj. Christopher Ross, PACAF C-17 Demo Team lead, said is extremely impressive for such a huge aircraft.

"If you've ever seen an air show you can probably remember what it feels like when jets roar overhead," he said. "The excitement and energy of an air show is a physical demonstration of U.S. commitment to our allies in the PACOM AOR. When we fly U.S. aircraft above hundreds of thousands of spectators, it shows that our country cares, and people remember it forever."

In addition to the C-17 aerial demonstration, air show attendees will also have the opportunity to meet and greet members of the team and view a C-17 static display, as well as take in other U.S. aircraft aerial demonstrations and displays.

The five-day show will also include three days of displays and demonstrations by defense companies and contractors aimed at promoting military to military discussions on aircraft and equipment, which can enable greater interoperability of platforms.

Ross said the team is especially excited for the upcoming show because it's the largest defense exposition in Asia.

"The Singapore International Airshow is focused on building stronger relations between the U.S. and Singapore, as well as amongst the international community," said Ross. "The U.S. is honored to participate in this year's show and committed to its partnership with Singapore."

The Singapore International Airshow is the largest defense exhibition and biennial international tradeshow in the Pacific, with more than 50 nations and foreign delegations and 800 defense contractors participating. Through participation in airshows and regional events, the U.S. demonstrates its commitment to the security of the Asia-Pacific region, promotes equipment interoperability, and displays the flexible combat capabilities of the U.S. military.
