Vickers Avenue will be closed from Atterbury Circle to Bouquet Boulevard, April 3 to 13 for construction.

During this phase of construction, members from the 15th Civil Engineer Squadron Pavements and Equipment Shop will be cold-planing, a process used for upgrading asphalt on the road and pouring new.

"Now, the pavement is badly deteriorated and on the verge of potholing," said Dennis Yee, 15 CES, Base Pavements Engineer. "We have had lots of heavy rain during rainy seasons in the past few years. Water is the worst enemy of pavement, especially for such a highly traveled road."

The road will be closed entirely for the safety of the workers.

"If we only work on one side at a time, there is not enough room for people to work safely," said Mr. Yee. "We want to provide our guys with a safe work area."

Since the road will be closed, detour routes are in place. The detour routes will take drivers from Atterbury Circle to Bouquet Boulevard, a left on to Scott circle then to Worthington Avenue.

"Our guys here have quite a lot of experience and capability," said Mr. Yee. "They can handle big projects like this."
