Melanie McLean 15th Airlift Wing Public Affairs HICKAM AFB, HI -- The Hickam Honor Guard precisely marches and proudly dresses, honoring Old Glory at local ceremonies and military traditions. The members of the team are hand picked and expected to be the finest representative of the Air Force and the United States military, according the Hickam Honor Guard creed. "Being a part of the Honor Guard isn't just about looking sharp and being highly disciplined, it's about respect and loyalty to the flag and everyone that's ever stood and died before it," said Senior Airman Christina Graham, Honor Guard team member and 15th Airlift Wing director of staff , staff member. "Being on the Hickam AFB Honor Guard team gives me a sense of pride and comrade." The team voluntarily commits to representing every member, past and present, of the United States Air Force, vowing to stand sharp, crisp, and motionless, for they are ceremonial guardsmen. Honor Guard is one of the few uniquely military extra curricular activities in which to participate for 1st Lt. Geoffrey Levine, Honor Guard officer in charge with 15th Contracting Squadron. "When I am not deployed its easy to lose myself in the serenity of Hawaii and forget about price paid by our comrades in harms way," said Lieutenant Levine. "The precision, order, and discipline of the Honor Guard brings me back to center, reminding me, every time I pay final honors to one of our veterans, what made me raise my right hand." Airman Graham notes that this sort of participation will only strengthen Airmen's sense of the military, taking their careers an extra step.
