Even while on leave, Col. Giovanni Tuck, 15th Airlift Wing commanader, choose to spend his day speaking with the 175th Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps Cadet Wing at the University of Hawaii at Manoa Nov. 12.

Mentoring is a buzz word in the Air Force Colonel Tuck took time out of his personal schedule to speak to the cadets as part of the AFROTC curriculum of mentoring cadets. He also spoke to the cadets and participated in an extensive Question and Answer session.

"It's this; it's mentoring," said Col Tuck regarding his favorite part of being the 15th Airlift Wing commander. "Our Air Force has a very proud heritage and I enjoy being with groups like this and being able to talk about our Air Force."

Colonel Tuck's message to the cadets highlighted the Air Force's legacy.

"I want to thank [veterans] for their service because I also want them to know that their legacy lives on through us [current active-duty members], just like our legacy lives on through you [cadets] when you come up through the ranks."

As a former AFROTC cadet at South West Texas State, Colonel Tuck urged cadets to prioritize education and to stick with the program. He explained that it is not only important, but special to take time to mentor, discuss and appreciate our Air Force's legacy.

"It's all about raising the people that are going to take my job, take my spot, so that at the end of it I can hang up my uniform and go 'Yep, our Air Force is in pretty good hands.'"
