70th Anniversary remembrance ceremony honors Hickam heroes

The Pacific Air Forces and the 15th Wing at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam will be holding a joint 70th Anniversary Remembrance Ceremony commemorating the attack on Hickam Field from 7:55 to 9 a.m. Dec. 7 at Atterbury Circle.

Eight Hickam Field survivors, five child survivors and two spouse survivors will be attending the ceremony.

The theme of the ceremony is "Honoring our Heroes." The ceremony includes an F-22 missing man flyover from the Hawaii Air National Guard's 154th Wing, a wreath laying and an honor guard gun salute. U.S. Air Force Gen. Gary North, Pacific Air Forces commander, and Col. Sam Barrett, 15th Wing commander, will be the guest speakers. Chaplain Joseph Deichert, 647th Air Base Group chaplain, will deliver the invocation. A trio from the Pacific Air Forces Band will perform various musical pieces throughout the ceremony.

The 15th Wing will also be hosting an event Dec. 6 at Atterbury Circle. The Manchester Central High School band will be performing from 9:15 to 9:40 a.m.

The Manchester Central High School band will be performing in honor of two students, Pvt. Joe Jedrysik, who attended Manchester Central High School and Sgt. Maurice St. Germain, who attended Manchester West High School. Both men were killed in action Dec. 7, 1941.

The guest speaker for this event will be Col. Dan Baldessari, 15th Operations Group commander, who attended a high school that was nearby to Manchester Central High School.

Participation for both events is highly encouraged for military members. All others who would like to attend the ceremony must be Department of Defense card holders or have base access.

There will be road closures and limited public parking at the event. Road closures include Atterbury Circle on Dec. 6 and 7 as well as the 15th Medical Group parking lot and the library parking lot. Members attending the ceremony need to be in place no later than 8:45 a.m. on Dec. 6 and 7:15 a.m. on Dec. 7.
