A gas chromatograph mass spectrometer is utilized to detect volatile organic compounds in water samples at the Bioenvironmental Flight laboratory at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii, Dec. 10, 2021. The equipment is highly sensitive to VOCs and measures by parts per trillion, that allows bioenvironmental personnel to indicate if the water is contaminated.
