80th anniversary of Hickam Field’s dedication

Lt. Col. Horace Hickam received the Silver Star for gallantry under fire in the Mexican state of Chihuahua on April 22, 1916. Hickam, a pioneer military aviator, died after crashing his Curtiss A-12 Shrike on November 5, 1934 while conducting night landings on an unlighted runway at Fort Crockett, Texas.
