Hickam re-enlists at Hickam
HICKAM AIR FORCE BASE, Hawaii -- Col. Giovanni Tuck, 15th Airlift Wing commander, reenlists U.S. Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Jarrod A. Hickam, a submarine machinist?s mate aboard the USS Buffalo (SSN 715), during a ceremony in the headquarters building June 30. While in Pearl Harbor, Petty Officer Hickam wanted to have the commander of the base bearing his family?s namesake reenlist him. Petty Officer Hickam is the great-great-nephew Lt. Col. Horace Hickam. Following orders published by Gen. Douglas MacArthur, War Department Chief of Staff, a new flying field on the island of Oahu was dedicated and named "Hickam Field" May 31, 1935. Petty Officer Hickam is one of three petty officer first classes leading the auxiliary division and serves as the ship?s assistant quality assurance officer. (U.S. Air Force photo by Staff Sgt.
