Hickam SFS members, Rodeo 2009
MCCHORD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. -- Amidst the chaos of an “explosion” and smoke, 15th Security Forces Squadron members from Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii, don gas masks and ensure their “casualty” is also protected from chemical warfare during an Air Mobility Rodeo 2009 event here July 21. The dummy weighed about 225 pounds with all its gear on. SFS specialists had to complete a course which required them to find and care for a “wounded” person, carry the litter while traversing a wooded path, take the casualty to safety, sprint to M-4 and M-9 shooting ranges, and successfully break ceramic plate targets while wearing gas masks. Hickam AFB’s team prepared for the event by doing six weeks of intense physical training including wind sprints and unconventional weight training. (U.S. Air Force photo/Staff Sgt. Carolyn Viss)
