HICKAM WARRIOR: Senior Airman Jason Smith
JOINT BASE PEARL HARBOR HICKAM - Senior Airman Jason Smith, 15th Civil Engineer Squadron, is this week’s Hickam Warrior. His responsibilities as a firefighter include operating six mission essential fire rescue vehicles and providing 24/7 fire protection to over 19,000 personnel at Hickam. “Additionally, I also serve as the assistant flight unit deployment manager for a team of 28 military firefighters, ensuring their mobility folders have the necessary requirements to deploy at a moments notice to include scheduling M-16, CBRNE, and SABC classes.” said Airman Smith. “I'm also a qualified SABC instructor responsible for educating combat warriors on life-saving skills.” “A Staff Sgt. with Senior Airman stripes is how I would describe Airman Smith.” said Senior Master Sgt. Jesus Longoria, deputy fire chief. “He has definitely hit the ground running full speed and has made an immediate positive impact and contribution to the base and local community. Since his arrival, he has responded to 7 aircraft in-flight and ground emergencies involving a C-17 Globemaster III, C-130 Hercules, F-15 Eagle, and the Boeing 747 aircrafts, protecting over $640 million in military and commercial aircraft assets. Additionally, he has taken an initiative to assist with the fire protection flight's unit deployment manager's program by inspecting and configuring 28 mobility readiness folders ensuring they are 24/7 ready for world-wide missions and tasks to include operational readiness exercises.” He has also dedicated his personal time conducting recruitment drives for the Air Force Sergeants Association during monthly promotion ceremonies and with their annual golf tournament helping them raise over $10,000 for local enlisted programs that support the First Term Airman Class and PME centers. “He also was pivotal in helping Airman's Attic move furniture into their new facility.” said Sergeant Longoria.
