Hickam Chronicals: Memorialziing our Heroes
Former Tech. Sgt. Lou Roffman attends the 70th Anniversary Remembrance Ceremony of the attacks on Hickam Field, now Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii, Dec. 7, 2011. Roffman was asleep when the Japanese attacked, like many, he thought it was the Navy practicing and wasn't alarmed until he heard explosions. Roffman took action and under the direction of a World War I combat veteran, began to move the B-17s off the flightline. The aircraft he was directed to move was hit when a Japanese Val Dive Bomber approach and strafed an engine and the propeller. Roffman flew as part of a search crew looking for the Japanese the following day. (U.S. Air Force photo/Senior Airman Lauren Main)
