Pilot For a Day

Caleb Jensen, Pilot For a Day participant, operates a bomb robot with the help of Senior Airman Vincent Irr, 647th Civil Engineer Squadron munitions apprentice as part of the Pilot for a Day program at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii, Feb. 8, 2013. Caleb was selected for the Pilot For a Day program after successfully undergoing a bone marrow transplant and completing treatment for aplastic anemia, a condition which causes the body to stop producing new blood cells. The goal of this program is to benefit children and their families in the local community who have catastrophic illnesses. It is not directed at any one illness or disease, and not restricted to children with "terminal" illnesses. For many children with catastrophic, but not "terminal" illnesses, the Pilot for a Day Program can be a significant part of their recovery. (U.S. Air Force photo/Tech. Sgt. Jerome S. Tayborn)
