"Friends of Hickam" Keiki Fishing Tournament

Now in its 13th year, the 2012 Keiki Fishing Tournament is a free event hosted by "Friends of Hickam" - an organization seeking to support, promote, and foster strong community relations with military families. The fishing tournament is one such event, bringing Hickam families together as part of the Hawaiian Aloha spirit to promote family welfare.

Friends of Hickam 13th Annual Keiki Fishing Tournament

- The fishing tournament will be held May 30, 2012
- Check in will start at 10:30 a.m.
- Check in area will be in the Burger King parking lot where the buses will be waiting.
- Name Tags will be distributed at check-in the morning of the tour.
- Name Tags will be required to board the bus and receive your goodies.
- Lunch will be served immediately upon arrival at the park.
- Mandatory Bus Transportation will be provided round trip for all participants and adult escorts.
- Walking shoes are a must! Suggest bringing light rain gear, blanket/mat, or folding lawn chair to sit on.
- Use of Insect Repellent and Sunscreen is strongly recommended.
- NO Secure Storage area for purses, etc is available.
- Suggest a backpack that can be carried without interference to the serious business of fishing!
- No Coolers, please. Snacks, Beverages and Lunch will be provided by the Friends of Hickam.

Ho'omaluhia Botanical Garden Rules and Regulations:
Many plants contain beneficial substances that have been used as food, medicine, dyes, drugs, sweeteners, poisons and flavorings. Many have leaves, fruit or other parts which may contain highly dangerous poisons or which may cause skin irritation, sneezing, extreme internal discomfort, eye inflammation or puncture wounds. Picking or removal of any fruit, flowers or other plant materials is not permitted. Please do not disturb geologic, historic or archaeological features. Leave plants, wildlife and their habitats undisturbed. Special care should be taken to be sure trees; shrubs and vines are not damaged or destroyed. Cutting across trail loops or entering undisturbed areas may cause serious erosion problems or wildlife disturbance.

Ho'omaluhia translates to "a place that causes you to be at peace or serenity." Loud music and disruptive behavior is discouraged. Intoxicating beverages are not permitted. There are no facilities for ball playing or active games and these activities are neither compatible nor appropriate in a botanical garden. Swimming and boating are not permitted. No Pets are permitted. Carry out all trash and unused bait and dispose at Visitor Center. Absolutely no climbing of the flood-control dam. Restrooms are located throughout the Garden

Friends of Hickam 13th Annual Keiki Fishing Tournament Rules and Format

All Hickam Air Force Base dependents aged 5-12 and accompanied by a parent or guardian are eligible to participate.  Due to space limitations at the park, participants will be limited to the first 250 registrants.

Admission Fee: Free (hosted by "Friends of Hickam")

Tournament Schedule:
10:30 a.m. Check in at Burger King parking lot at Hickam
10:45 a.m. Buses leave Hickam
11:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m. Lunch at the park (will be served upon arrival)
12:45 p.m. Welcome introduction & rules (fishing area)
1:00 - 2:30 p.m. Fishing Tournament
3:00 p.m. Refreshment and presentation of fishing prizes
4:00 p.m. Buses leave for Hickam
4:30 p.m. Return to Hickam

Tournament Rules & Format

1. All fish must be caught on bamboo fishing poles and bait that will be provided by FOH to qualify for prizes. Rod and Reel fishing allowed but would not be eligible for prizes. Only one pole per angler and all hooks must be barbless. Only registered participants qualify for prizes.
2. Catch and release all fish.
3. All entrants shall be confined to fishing from shoreline only in designated areas and accompanied by parent or guardian. The designated fishing area is 600 yards wide with Small Mouth Bass, Catfish, Red Devil fish & Tilapia.
4. Fish will be measured by length and the minimum qualifying fish must be no smaller than 4 inches. Measurement to the next ΒΌ inch. In the event of a tie, tie breaker will be determined by the keiki that is the youngest in age will be declared the winner. Fishing Marshals (orange vest) will be posted in fishing areas to measure your catch and will be equipped with extra fishing tackle and bait.
5. Prizes to be awarded in both boys and girls divisions. Trophies for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, place for "Largest Fish" categories and one "Most Fish" category.
6. Fishing will start at 1:00PM and will conclude at 2:30PM.
7. Medical personnel will be at the Command Center to provide first aid if needed.
8. Transport Vehicles will be parked at the Command Center for restroom transportation.
